Pace
Who we are
Walking the quiet grain of Japan's streets
FuturePinecone is a small Tokyo-based walking studio. We plan unhurried routes through old neighborhoods, back lanes and working districts so visitors meet the country at the pace it was built for.
How it began
A map drawn on foot, not from above
FuturePinecone started in 2016 with a single notebook of hand-measured walks between Asakusa and the river. We kept noticing that the best moments — a shrine gate framed by laundry, a sweet shop open since the Meiji era — never appeared on the usual itineraries. So we wrote them down, step by step, and the notebook became a company.
Today we run guided and self-guided walks across more than forty districts, but the method has not changed: every route is walked, timed and revised by a person before anyone else sets out on it.
What we value
Slow is a decision, not an accident
Place
Neighborhoods, not landmarks
People
The shopkeepers' side
The people who guide
Residents first, guides second
Our guides live in the districts they walk. Several grew up there; one has run the same tea counter for thirty years. They are trained to read a street — its history, its trades, its small courtesies — and to explain it without flattening it into a slogan.
- Every guide walks a route at least six times before leading it
- Group size is capped so conversation stays possible
- Notes are updated after shops open, close or change hands

Working with us
If you plan it, we walk it with you
Whether you want a guided morning or a printed card you follow alone, we build the route around what you came to see — a craft, a cuisine, a quiet hour before the crowds. Reach us and tell us the day you have; we will send back a walk that fits it.
